Day To Day Stuff

Seeing as we are pretty boring people there is nothing too exciting going on with us right now, so if you are looking for excitement here, sorry, not going to happen.  We live a pretty relaxed, normal (for us) life.
Some new things going on in the city.  Sams Club opened a few weeks ago.  I didn't buy a membership when they were selling them before the store opened.  I have a deep aversion to paying a store to shop there and then paying for the products on top of that.  Anyway, I headed over there one day and just walked into the store like I belonged there and no one asked me about my membership card lol.  I wandered the whole store and didn't see anything in a size that we would buy or at prices that were worth the initial cost of the membership card.  OK, been there, done that.
Walmart opened its doors yesterday so I went to check it out with the landlady and her sister.  We found some bargains and as we all know our prices, ( more or less), for our normal purchases we did a lot of price checking.  They had some good opening specials; whether these prices will continue or not who knows?
My best priced specials I think were the bags of flour at 2 for 10 pesos and blank CDs at 4 for 10 pesos.  See, I warned you, no excitement here lol.
The store was packed with people and the employees were being very helpful.  Will probably go back sometime; but not often.
The landlady knew that Ley was also having a lot of specials to try and compete so after coming home for lunch we then headed back out to check out their specials.  We got some good deals on veggies such as large tomatoes for 5.45 pesos a kilo, roma tomatoes for 2.90 pesos a kilo and potatoes for 7.90 pesos a kilo, a head of lettuce was 6.50 pesos, onions were also cheap.  For the amounts that we use it is not that big a deal; but for the landlady it is as she purchases large amounts for the whole family.
We had fun shopping together and found that we buy many of the same products, the landlady and I are both into reading labels and buying fresh stuff over packaged, so when one of us found a bargain we made sure we told the other.
After our shopping was done we dropped her sister off and then we went over and visited with a good friend of hers that she needed to see.  After a nice visit we headed home.  I really enjoyed the day out with the girls, something I very seldom do.  Good fun and a real workout for my language non skills, a whole day with no English spoken.
Visited with the landlord for a bit in the evening and that was it for the day.
Today not too much on the day planner lol.  Tough job this being retired!
Have a good weekend.

Baby Shower

Saturday evening I attended another baby shower and they again had the "show".  The ladies seem to really enjoy this show. This time the performers had a  new performer with them and they had new wigs, (badly needed in my opinion) and new outfits also.  They seemed to do more singing, (lip syncing), this time and less off colour jokes; although there was still enough of those.

The decorations were cute as usual with the balloons made up to look like baby soothers, the baby will be a boy so the colours were blue and while.  Everyone was given a pin with either a plastic baby soother or safety pin or some other baby related item to wear and then were also given a stork/baby thingy with some candies to take home afterwards.  I forgot to take a picture of the table centerpieces; but they were of balloons and baby stuff in blue and white.  Very cute.
At one point in the evening they passed around a roll of toilet tissue and everyone was told to take some of it.  Lots of us didn't know what for so didn't think too hard, well actually didn't think at all before taking some and passing the roll to the next person.  Later on in the evening the mother to be stood up in front of everyone and was measured around the middle by each lady with their length of toilet tissue, much laughter ensued; but only a couple of ladies came close to her actual size.  They also played a sort of musical chairs to much laughter.
Snacks and drinks and lots of laughter.  Good time was had by all.

Brooch and take home stork.

Online Photo Albums

Some of you might have noticed that I have some online photo albums on Webshots.  The first and second ones I haven't uploaded photos to in quite a long time; but still people look at the photos every week. ( I usually just stick them all in the third one now).
In fact it completely amazes me how many people look at them.  Every week I get an email telling me how many views there were of the photos that week, how many downloads there were and also the total views and downloads.
To me the numbers are surprising.  This last week alone there were 7,140 views of the photos!
Total photo views are 371,857  with 1,924 downloads.  Wow!!  There must be a lot of people out there that are interested in Mexico.
Not too much going on here, it is warming up.  I think it got to around 34 or 35 C. today, not sure didn't really look this afternoon.
This morning I went shopping for a baby shower gift, yes I am invited to another baby shower this Saturday evening.  This time it is for our landladies brothers daughter,  She is due at the end of the month and will be having a boy apparently.
Picked up a gift, got it wrapped and did some other shopping at the same time.
This afternoon I went to the Casa de la Cultura and signed up for their July art classes.  They start the 5 th of July and go to the end of the month.  Four weeks, twice a week for an hour and a half each time.  Total cost 250 pesos, ( that would be about $20.43 CAD).  Very reasonable.  I am interested in seeing if any of the people who were there the last time I went will be there.

This And That

Last week when I was at Spanish class the teacher told me that her daughter had been to Mexico City and had brought her back some Yucatan style dresses.  She hadn't unpacked them yet, so I told her that this week I would bring my camera and take some pictures of them.
I actually remembered to take my camera with me and she brought out the dresses.  Lots of lovely hand embroidery.  She had on a lovely fuchsia colored top which she said was machine embroidered; but that photo didn't turn out well.
Here are some photos of the dresses.  They are certainly very pretty and I am sure that she will get lots of wear out of them this summer as they are cotton and should be cooler.
It is hard to see the embroidery as the dresses kind of hang together when not on a person; but it gives an idea of the work that has gone into them.

I loved this black one, it has lots of work on it.  I thought it was machine embroidered; but she says it is hand done.

It is worthwhile to enlarge this picture to see the detail on the dress.  Lovely.

I have been doing some painting a few times a week and tried to do some Plumeria flowers with dew drops or rain drops on them.  The drops turned out not bad, the rest of it, not so good.  Practice, practice, practice  I don't think I have tried any flowers before in oils.  I did do some years ago in acrylics in the "one stroke" type painting style that was a fad for awhile or maybe still is??  I don't know.  I tried another beach scene and another wave scene and am going to try a waterfall next.  After that who knows.  I am having fun anyway and that is what counts I guess.
