The other day when we were there he told us that this weekend was the Copa Bahia here and that his team was in it. They played on Friday night but I was under the weather due to an denist appt. that day. We missed the game on Saturday but were told that the team had won both their games and would be in the final on Sunday at 1 PM.
Sunday we headed over to the stadium to watch our first live soccer game in Guaymas. It was hot, 34 C., but there were stands with a roof over for some shade; although as the afternoon went on the sun heading into the west sure heated up the sitting area.
When we arrived the 15 yr. olds were playing their final. We saw our friend and he came over to talk to us for a bit. He was a busy man as he was one of the organisers of the event. The Guaymas team was playing an Empalme team, Empalme is the next town over from us and there was some good natured rivalery going on in the stands. The game ended up tied and went into overtime. Finally the Guaymas team emerged victorious.
Our friends team finally took the field to face off against a team from Aqua Prieta. Not much was happening, no goals that is. In the pictures below our friends son is #8.
Meanwhile it was getting hotter and hotter in the stands and we decided that we would have to read about the winner in the newspaper and hear about the rest of the game from our friend. We were just too hot to stay there anymore.
We headed home to the airconditioning and a cold glass of coca cola.
