The president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon was to visit Guaymas and do various things. He gave the tribute to the men and women who serve and to the fallen from the flagship Usumacinta_.
My photo of the Usumacinta.
There were Naval training demonstrations put on and he inaugarated/opened several things around town. He then toured the ExpoMar exhibit on the malecon.
It was kind of up in the air as to when he was going to be at the malecon some sites said 11 AM and some said 1 PM.
We arrived shortly after 11 AM and the area was closed. I asked one of the security fellows when it would re-open and he told us 2 PM. We then asked when the President was to arrive and he told me, shortly.
We hung around and waited until just after 12 noon. There was some action with vehicles arriving in a cavalcade and lots of helicopters; but no President.
We had other commitments so we had to leave without a view of his arrival. Oh well.
This is, as far as I know his second visit to Guaymas since becoming President. The previous one that I know of was on Oct. 15, 2008.
We were surprised that there were not many people around the malecon, there were several protests going on a block or two away on Serdan and lots of people were around there. We stayed away from that area and went on to do our own little mundane errands and headed home.
One of the photos I took of all the vehicles that arrived on the malecon at one point; but 1/2 hr. later still no President.

One of the smaller boats patrolling the bay at the time. (My photo)
