Festival Dr. Alfonso Ortiz Tirado
The Festival Dr. Alfonso Ortiz Tirado will be held this year from January 18 to 26th, this is the 24th year that it is being held. It is put on and supported by the Government of Sonora through the Institute of Sonoran Culture, the municipalities of Alamos, Cajeme (Obregon),Navajoa, Hermosillo, Huatabampo, Etchojoa, Empalme, Guaymas and Nogales, support from Culture and Arts through the National Institute of Culture and Fine arts, and participation from other areas too numerous to mention.
The majority of the events are held in Alamos; but there are also events held in other cities as well.
It is the largest international event held in northwestern Mexico and features artists from the USA, Sweden, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico.
One of the performers this year will be Mexican Francisco Araiza, considered one of the best tenors of the world for his extraordinary vocal technique. He has more than 50 recordings in six languages and currently resides in Stuttgart, Germany.
